Custom Quilting

I finally get to deliver this custom quilt to my client, Linda, this afternoon.  

The top was made by her now deceased Mother-In-Law, Nellie.  

I'm thrilled with the quilting and humbled by the opportunity to finish this quilt for her. 

 The border will be scalloped.  I did McTavishing in the background of the blocks.  Flower petals in the blossoms, veins in the leaves and feathers with piano key border on the outside.  I used the applique on the outside border as the spine for the feathers.  

This quilt took a bunch more time than I estimated but it was worth it for the result!

Love note

My client chose the "Lava" thread by Superior.  It is all stitched and looks beautiful dancing across her 4 patch posie.  I still need to get a photo of it to post.

What I really wanted to share with you today is this little note by my son.  He is with his dad this week on Spring Break and isn't always allowed to call me.  So... I've got this note by my computer to bring me a smile each day.

Four Patch Posie

The Four Patch Posie craze overtook my online quilt guild.  This top is going to be a wedding present.  

Isn't it amazing how you can cut up one piece of fabric and get so many interesting kaliedescope designs for the blocks?

I auditioned some thread choices for the top.  A quilt with all of those colors provides a great opportunity to use a

 variegated thread that will sparkle across the shades of the top.  Here were the three choices:

This is a variegated thread called Lava from Superior Threads.  The color is "Fireworks" and has a color change each inch.  The colors include red, gold, green and two colors of blue!

Next is a blue variegated by Superior Threads called King Tut.  The different blues flow together like water.

The last photo is a solid red color which would also look nice but doesn't have as much "jazz".    Which one would you choose?  Guess which one my client picked?

Moda Jelly Roll Strip Quilt

This is a strip quilt using a Moda Jelly Roll.  

My client, Rhonda, made this quilt at one of our Nimble Thimble guild classes.

  Didn't it turn out pretty?  She is giving it to her mother for mother's day.  I was able to turn it around for her pretty quick so she can get it bound.  The edge to edge design is one of my all time favorites.  It is called Featheration.

My New Fleet

I got some magnetic signs to adorn my car and my parent's car.  I've got a fleet now!  

I've been kinda quiet this week because I've been working on a custom quilt.  I finished it today and I'm really happy with it.  I can't wait for my client to see it- she's gonna LOVE it!

I don't want to post a wide shot of it until I unveil it for her.  I want to suprise her with it's beauty.

I found these great purple clips called Jaws over at Columbia River Quilting.

I've been using when I float the top on my Millie. I highly recommend them!

Background texture

I spent my weekend doing McTavishing in the background of 12 applique blocks.  Next up, feathers on the outside borders.  I plan on adding petals to the blossom you see and veins in the leaves.
